Tradi’chaux Gris
Heavy-lime coating
Field of Application
Tradi'chaux Gris covering can be used for renovation or on new buildings.
Tradi'chaux Gris coatings can be applied directly to the support surface, using the 'one-coat' technique.
Tradi'chaux Gris can be applied by hand or machine on support surfaces of the same type as those used for traditional hydraulic coatings, mainly:
 - Masonry of breeze block, concrete block or brick jointed with hydraulic binders
 - White concrete compliant with standard P 18.210 (ref: DTU 23.1).
 - Hydraulic coatings compliant with standard P 15.210 (ref: DTU 26.1).
 - Gobetis (Cement'in C, Cement'in P)
Composition
Tradi'chaux Gris is a blend of heavy lime, cement, lime sand, silicon and additives.
Characteristics
Tradi'chaux Gris is a heavy lime coating, ready to mix, designed to cover lumps, out-of-true spots, loose blocks and other elements spoiling the smoothness of a surface from 2 to 5 cm thick on facades.
Preparation substrate
Substrates must be stable, sound, clean and dust-free, and free of all traces of organic matter.
Support surfaces must be free of all loose matter. Crumbly joints must be stripped back.
Tradi'chaux Gris can be applied directly to the support surface.
Smooth concretes should be given a prior treatment with Cantiplus Fixenduit or Cantiplus High-grip.
In hot, windy or dry weather, substrates should be moistened a few hours before applying the coating. Porous or absorbent substrates should be moistened the day before.
When laying mortar, and during the hardening stage, the ambient temperature, plus that of the support base, should be neither lower than 5°C nor higher than 30°C.
The coating should not be applied to a wall that is frozen, thawing or likely to freeze in the hours following application
Application
Apply the coating in a single application of 3 cm thickness:
For thicknesses up to 5 cm, an anti-alkali treated fibreglass mesh and with a mesh of at least 8 mm may be applied immediately as a lining using a smoothing tool, plasterer's knife or trowel into the Tradi'chaux Gris.
Apply a second coat 2 cm thick immediately.
A metal mesh with hexagonal or rectangular mesh may be fixed into the masonry using galvanised staples or boat-building nails before applying a coating as a single layer forced through the mesh of up to 5 cm thick.
Roughly finish the coating and staple if the plan is to apply a finishing coat of the Granicem or Granichaux type (after a minimum two-week drying period depending on thickness and after stabilisation of the support surface).
The coating should be carefully finished if it is to received a fine hydraulic coating, such as Tradi'chaux Color or Granomin Prodexor.

Preparation mixture
Mix in a trough, a concrete mixer or spraying machine.
Keep to a constant mixing time throughout the entire job and keep to the water dosage: 6 to 7.0 litres of water per 30 kg bag of Tradi'chaux Gris.
Use time: ± 1 hour
Mortar that has started to harden should not be remixed or reused.
